I tested this documentation before committing it and the "understanding-the-managementform" did work. Is there something else at play here? I don't think it was adjusted in Adrian's editing.

Didn't you get the

WARNING: ...docs/topics/forms/modelforms.txt:: (WARNING/2) undefined label: understanding-the-managementform

warning when running make html after the green text HTML generation stage? (somebody reported in #9895 it also gets inserted in the resulting HTML document).

I canreproduce the error with both Sphinx 0.4.2+docutils 0.4 and Sphinx 0.5.x+docutils 0.5, what versions are you using?.
