Ian Bicking just wrote up a list of things he considers important in an "ideal web development environment":

It's a great list. We can use this as a meta-ticket to track things that Django could do better.

I'm closing this tickets, because Django does much of those things already, and I don't like having broad "meta" tickets that simply increase the number of open tickets rather than point out specific issues.
